Lean Six Sigma is the combination of Lean (eliminating waste and accelerating flow) and Six Sigma (reducing variation and defects through data). Used by organisations in every industry across the world, it provides a structured, evidence-based approach to solving complex process problems and delivering measurable, sustainable results.
What is Lean Six Sigma?
Lean Six Sigma brings together two powerful and complementary methodologies. Lean was developed at Toyota in the 1950s and focuses on identifying and eliminating the 8 types of waste that slow down processes and increase cost. Six Sigma was developed at Motorola in the 1980s and focuses on reducing process variation — the inconsistency that causes defects, errors and unpredictable results.
Together, they create a methodology that is both faster and more reliable. The structured project approach — DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) — provides a rigorous, data-driven framework for improvement projects of any complexity.

The DMAIC methodology

Define
Define the problem, customer requirements (CTQ) and project scope. Develop the Project Charter.

Measure
Collect data, map the process (SIPOC, VSM) and establish a performance baseline.

Analyse
Identify root causes using Fishbone, 5 Whys, Pareto, hypothesis testing and statistical analysis.
I
Improve
Generate, pilot and implement solutions. Apply Design of Experiments for optimisation.
C
Control
Sustain results through control plans, control charts and standardisation.
The belt certification levels
Yellow Belt
Foundational knowledge. Participate in improvement projects as a team member. 2 days + exam. 350 EUR.
Green Belt
Lead DMAIC projects independently. Full statistics, MSA, SPC. 5 days + exam. 800 EUR.
Black Belt
Full-time improvement specialist. Advanced statistics, DOE, mentor Green Belts. 5 days + exam. 1,200 EUR.
Master Black Belt
Programme leadership, strategic deployment, coach Black Belts. 5 days + exam. 2,800 EUR.
Which certification body?
Enviso is accredited by three internationally recognised certification bodies. You choose which certification you wish to obtain:
- ILSSI (International Lean Six Sigma Institute, Cambridge) — no expiry date
- IASSC (International Association for Six Sigma Certification) — valid 3 years
- LSSIAP (Lean Six Sigma International Association of Professionals) — no expiry date
